Simulators for fire fighter training can present particular difficulties. The traditional 'crib' fire using diesel and wood not only generates large volumes of black smoke, but when extinguished, leaves a large quantity of dirty, partially burnt debris. Once the fire has been extinguished, it cannot be relit. After shutdown, the system is immediately available for re-ignition to repeat the previous training exercise or, under software control, can be re-configured to simulate a new scenario.
